Letters from Normandy
Dear Mom & Dad,
So much has happened since I last wrote. I guess by now you would have heard about the big invasion. And I am proud to say I was part of it. I won't lie to you the landing was hell, and the last few days have been hard, when we got through the beach defences we were met by inland defences of field after field of marsh land, flooded in some attempt to stop us and our airborne troops. And some they did stop……..if you know what I mean……..War is Hell Pops aint that what you told us about your war. We took everything Jerry could throw at us and they can throw allot that's fur sure. Those guys along the beach got it worse. Hope Joe over in the Paratroops is OK!
Hard to explain what has happened to me, you cant imagine what its like here, sure you have seen some pictures and maybe even some news reel footage already, just about everywhere you look there seems to be some dam reporter or camera man from Life magazine, Yank and! yada yada yada, but I tell you they do not do this justice. I dowt anything on this scale has happened before and will happen any time soon while I am in this mans Army. Anyway better go now, we are moving out soon. You can read the rest in the history books, if they ever get round to writing about us.
Take care I will write soon.
Your loving son
