Duxford and Madingley
American Cemetery, Cambridge
Remembrance Sunday 2008
11 group members mustered at
the Imperial War Museum, Duxford, for the Remembrance Sunday
Service. What a smashing day it was with all attending
members enjoying the quality time we had with each other
away from the normal show season events, at the same time
paying our respects on this very important day both to the
forces past and present of this country and those who have
paid the ultimate sacrifice from the United States of
America.
It was appreciated that for
many especially Stretch, Rach and Possum this was quite a
journey, such is their commitment to the group, a commitment
that is recognised by us all.
This was the first time all
of us had spent a Remembrance Sunday at Duxford and we all
thought it was a well put on event, unfortunately not
knowing before hand the complete programme for the day we
missed a few things that was going on, but we know for next
time and I for one hope we can repeat it again in 2009,
perhaps with a few more of the group with us to share the
experience. It will certainly be included in the 2009
Programme of events.
The Visit to the Cambridge
American War Cemetery was very important to us and I am glad
all those from the group who have never been before
appreciated the experience. The laying of flowers at
the graves of all the 507th and 17th Airborne Division
troopers was a task Neil had wished to do and was carried
out on behalf of the surviving members of the 17th Airborne
Division and I am grateful to all who followed us around and
took part in that task.
The meal we had together
before breaking off to go our separate ways may have been
lacking in culinary delights, but was well made up for with
splendid company and was a fitting end to a very special day
for the Duxford group.
